SMALLER CLASS SIZES MEAN A BETTER EDUCATION: ETFO WATERLOO VP

Waterloo Region teachers are concerned about their ability to meet students’ needs if classes grow larger.

ETFO Waterloo Teacher Local VP Jeff Pelich: “We’re frustrated.”

“We’re frustrated because we have seen the benefits of smaller class sizes,” says Jeff Pelich, vice president of ETFO’s Waterloo Teacher Local, who is quoted in an article on the Kitchener Today website.

Pelich says his members often say they’d prefer smaller class sizes over wage and benefit improvements.

“Learning has changed over the last twenty years, and with that comes smaller class sizes because it’s more teaching on an individual basis, teaching in small groups, teaching with project-based learning and inquiry-based learning.”
