YRTL REPORTS HUGE INCREASE IN CLASSROOM VIOLENCE

The president of ETFO’s York Region Teacher Local says violence against the local’s elementary teachers has increased 452% since 2013.

YRTL President Dave Clegg showed this photo of a member’s classroom at a citizen’s meeting in Newmarket.

Citizens packed a meeting in Newmarket on Mar. 19 to find out what could be done, according to an article in BradfordToday.

“Student behaviour is at a level we’ve never seen before, and there are a whole host of theories as to why,” York Region Teacher Local President Dave Clegg told the meeting. “But schools are simply the mirror of society and this is a systemic, societal problem.”
