ELEMENTARY TEACHERS’ CONTRACT TALKS ON HOLD; DISPUTE COULD STRETCH INTO SCHOOL YEAR

The Ford government is accusing certain education unions of choosing to pause bargaining, a claim one union is calling “hogwash.”

It is the latest development in what has become a messy round of summer negotiations — with four major education unions now reaching an impasse that threatens to delay contract negotiations into the school year.

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) are the latest unions to refer a dispute over bargaining rules to the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) — one that could take months to resolve.
