CONTRACT TALKS WITH ONTARIO TEACHERS’ UNIONS CONTINUE — SLOWLY

Talks continue between the province and four teachers’ unions, with Education Minister Stephen Lecce telling parents the Ontario government’s priority is “to deliver a normal, stable and enjoyable year of learning.”

In a letter posted online Wednesday that was also sent to all school boards, Lecce touted the government’s “back to basics” focus starting this fall to help students struggling in literacy and math.

“Ontario’s government is absolutely committed to keeping kids in class,” he wrote. “After reaching a tentative agreement on a process with (the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation), we are again urging all remaining teacher unions to come to the table to sign a deal that ensures a process for uninterrupted learning for the next three years.”
