“It proved its value right away, in terms of student achievement,” said board chair Alex Johnstone.
Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board chair Pat Daly echoed the sentiment, adding that the full-day program has been “extremely positive,” especially for children from disadvantaged families.
Daly cautioned the province that a decision on kindergarten shouldn’t be taken lightly. “Decisions like that should be based on data,” he said. “In some ways it could end up supporting that the current model is the most beneficial.”
