The president of ETFO’s Near North Teachers’ Local has warned that violence against teachers and administrators alike is becoming more frequent and more severe.
In an interview with the North Bay Nugget, Rob Hammond said increasing classroom sizes will make the problem worse.
“I’ve seen what a kindergarten kid can do to a teacher,” Hammond said. “We have kids who will destroy a classroom and there doesn’t seem to be a consequence.”
“Some classrooms are very bad,” he told the Nugget. “Some teachers are stressed out and frustrated. They’re off sick because of stress or injury.”
