ELEMENTARY TEACHERS’ UNION FILES LABOUR BOARD COMPLAINT OVER CODE OF CONDUCT CHANGES

Ontario’s elementary teachers’ union has launched a complaint with the labour board over the government’s new code of conduct rules in schools, saying the government should have consulted more before making the changes.

Karen Brown, president of the 83,000-member Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, said that “despite having committed to a collaborative process and meeting with (the union) on two brief occasions and agreeing to a third meeting prior to the release of the revised (rules), the government acted in bad faith, proving again that they are not interested in partnering with educators to address violence in schools.”
